Microsoft gets its foot in the door

Filed under: software — gavinedwardsuk @ 11:35 am

The OLPC project has announced that the $100 laptop is now going to cost $175 and that instead of being a soley open sourced operating system that users(countries paying for it) will have the choice to run windows. Despite Microsofts initial claims that the OLPC computer was not a ‘decent computer’ its drive to produce subsidised versions of XP for $3 for the American market, announced last week, suggests that perhaps Microsoft wanted to get that all important foot in the door of some emerging ecomonies….

Governements will undoubtedly choose Microsofts ‘industry standard’ software over Linux and i think thats a shame, will market monoply be questioned? oir will Microsofts ‘kind gesture’ be seen solely as this?

goning to take the conspiracy theory hat off now before i get carried away….
