What’s going on behind my browser?

Filed under: web — Andy Braxton @ 10:18 am

medium.gifMe.dium has a broswer plugin in beta that allows you to see other Me.dium users who are browsing the same sites as you and to connect to them. It’s a kind of browsing visualisation crossed with a chat application.

There’s some info about the latest beta release at Mashable. And there’s a demo on podtech.net. I havent seen the beta itself…but to me I think they should take the thing online and make a larger website out of the data that they trawl with the plugin. At the moment it looks like a chat application with a mini visualisation of the browsing community…it’s a really compelling idea but I’m just wondering if it couldn’t be expanded into an online community site where I can view my history and visualise it alongside that of other users, my friends in particular. Obviously though, the nature of browsing necessitates a plug-in style app that allows me to chat to users live on sites Im visiting and sites they’re visiting, but it would be great to take the visualisation to another level. Send me a beta login please Me.dium and I’ll judge first-hand!

  2. Thanks for post on Me.dium. We’d love to have you and your readers join on private beta as we’re always looking for new points of view. You’re correct with your comments about expanding to match your browsing to your friends and other users. That is in essence what the sidebar does – matches you to other people and site relevant to what you’re currently doing in real-time. We have several other plans for enabling you to use this data. We’re still in the early stages of building Me.dium and appreciate any user feedback we get.

Just follow this link and I’ll see you online.

  3. Thanks – just installed it…nice and easy. I guess that’s one of the advantages of a browser plugin – it’s seriously seamless! It’s a funny feeling being visible to the rest of the me.dium users…exciting!

  4. Ok…well, thats interesting…suddenly people around me are looking at frankandpat…then the people around them start looking at frankandpat and…it’s like a viral browsing mechanism, once something is seeded it can be past around if there is enough interest… and the realtime factor is really cool. Damn cool!
